II. Career Experience:
A. Project Development Specialist:
For the past 20 years I have developed startup and turnaround projects under the umbrella of my consulting business, The Flash Point Production Co., based in Houston, Texas. I specialize in developing products and services that are new to the marketplace. I have provided strategic planning development, training, operational, sales and marketing support for clients in Detroit MI, Phoenix and Mesa, AZ, Memphis, TN, Seattle, WA, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Waco and Austin, TX. Since 2001 I have also served as the Vice President of Marketing & Sales for Quality Safety Edge, Houston, TX, an international consulting group that works with Fortune 500 companies to bring about positive change in corporate cultures through behavioral technologies.
Marketing Director, Black Diamond Golf, Inc., San Antonio, TX 2002-2003. Start up Project: I was brought in to assist the founder and CEO to introduce “The Club Polisher®” a newly-patented machine that can clean and polish a set of 10 golf irons in 90 seconds. I was hired to write their original Operations Manual, teach entrepreneurial, sales and marketing classes, and provide ongoing marketing and sales support for their national network during their first full year in operation.
President, MEGAMERICA Mortgage Group, Inc. San Antonio, Texas 1995-1998, Turnaround project: Assisted the CEO in taking a struggling 3 yr. old company with 15 Affiliates in 9 cities to a profitable and thriving business with 200 Affiliates in 90 cities and six states. I assisted in identifying and resolving the existing problems with the company, i.e. initial staffing, programs, policies and procedures. I developed and implemented a new sales program and support materials (copy, artwork, design); implemented “target-marketing” to identify and close the first 200 Affiliates; hired the initial employees; created and implemented all aspects of day-to-day business operations (except legal and accounting). MEGAMERICA currently has 400 Affiliates in 13 states.
Executive Vice President, Marblelife, Inc. Detroit, Michigan 1993-1995, Turnaround project: I brought the principals together who acquired this failing division of Union Carbide Chemicals and Plastics Co. I assisted the CEO in developing and implementing a new marketing and sales program that increased participating Affiliate’s gross sales by 30% by the end of the first 18 months, and directed all facets of the marketing, sales and training. In addition, I rewrote their Sales and Marketing Manual and designed all the support materials. Marblelife is currently the largest stone refinishing company in America.
Executive Vice President, Worldwide Franchise Consultants, Inc. Waco, Texas, 1991-93, Startup project: I was hired to develop, implement and administer a two year venture between the private business segment, the International Franchise Association, and the Small Business Administration (SBA) in Washington, D. C. The program, VETFRAN (Veterans Transition Franchise Initiative) was created to assist veterans coming back from “Operation Desert Storm” in getting started in their own businesses. The Dwyer Group, parent company of Worldwide Franchise Consultants, hired me to develop and implement the mechanics of this two-year program, and coordinate all the multi-agency activity. I enrolled more than 200 national and international franchise companies to support the program, which in turn generated approximately $5 million in franchise sales, and allowed veterans across the country to become self-employed.
Executive Administrator, Victory House Discovery Center, Mesa, Arizona 1990-91, Startup project: I was hired to develop and market an innovative residential treatment facility for teenage felons being adjudicated from the Arizona youth and prison system. I orchestrated the very first joint venture in the state of Arizona between a residential treatment facility and a fully accredited, interactive computerized learning program, to offer a high school diploma within an on-site residential treatment environment.
B. Corporate Experience:
President, Future Learning Centers of Arizona, Mesa, Arizona, 1987-1990, Tutor Time Learning Centers; the first child care center in America to feature interactive computer learning for preschool children. We developed the pilot programs (physical facilities, curriculum and marketing) for the first three Learning Centers in America; which we then sold to Tutor Time’s national holding company.
President, Baxter Coffee, Inc., Albany, Georgia, 1984-1987, Startup project: Developed three service-related businesses under one holding company (a carpet cleaning business, a paint-contracting business, and a retail floor covering company). I took the company from #17 in the marketplace to #1 in three years; and sold it for five times the initial capital investment.
Communications Consultant, A.T. &T., Waco, Texas, 1980-1984, Worked closely with the major decision-makers of corporate America to assess and meet their telecommunications requirements (hardware, software, and network). I was named the “Outstanding Consultant of Multi-Industry” in 1981; and in 1983 the “Sales Consultant of the Year.” With the breakup of A.T. & T. in 1984, I was promoted to their Corporate Training Center in Cincinnati, OH, but turned down the offer in order to go into business for myself.
C. Teaching Experience:
Graduate Fellowship, North Texas State University, Denton, TX 1972-75, I was awarded a Teaching Fellowship that paid for my tuition and expenses as I taught undergraduate art classes. I graduated in the top 5% of my class, and began exhibiting my artwork on a professional level while still in graduate school.
Tenured Professor, Del Mar College, Corpus Christi, Texas, 1976-1980, Innovated departmental and community arts programs. I received national recognition in my career path; my paintings, prints and drawings have been represented in galleries and museums throughout the United States and in numerous private collections.
